The Commission on the Status of Women to Begin Today

Dianova to organize a paralel event to CSW58

The fifty-eight session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58) is to begin today, March 10 through March 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York city. The priority theme for 2014 is challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for women and girls. This year’s session will also examine the access and participation of women and girls  to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.

Within the context of the MDGs, more specifically Goal number 3: “Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women”, Dianova and four partner NGOs will present a parallel event on theme: “Education, Gender & Maternal Health: Social & Public Goods”. The event is to take place on March 12, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at CCUN Tillman Chapel.

During the event, Mr. Rafael Guerrero, Director General of the Foundation Dianova Nicaragua will review the situation of rural women and girls in this country before detailing Dianova’s experience in providing these women with educational services capable of facilitating access to qualified jobs. In addition, one of the school’s students –the Esther Del Rio-Las Marías educational center, operated by Dianova – will share her life experience, including what it means to her to have access to education in the region where she lives.
