A 16-day campaign to end violence against women and girls
The 16 Days of Activism campaign will run from 25 November to 10 December with the slogan: “Unite, leave no one behind: End violence against women and girls”
As part of its commitment to promoting the gender perspective in debates related to migration, education, addiction and mental health, Dianova is taking part in the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign running from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
The campaign is part of the 2030 Agenda, a global commitment to 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the 193 members of the UN, which is directed at the three areas of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.
Sustainable Development Goal #5 recognises gender equality and the empowerment of women as a key priority of the Agenda. Based on this vision, as in previous years, the UNITE campaign invites you to “Orange the world” as an appeal to civil society, governments and members of the UN to mobilize people and put an end to violence against women
- It is estimated that 35% of women worldwide have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from their partner or sexual violence from someone other than their partner at some point in their life.
- However, some national studies show that as many as 70% of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from a partner during their lifetime.
Within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and through the UNITE campaign, we are working to ensure that all women and girls, irrespective of their location, circumstances or migrant status, have the right to a life free from violence and its consequences.
Dianova and Gender-Based Violence
- Gender-based violence represents one of the most systematic and widespread abuses of human rights. Dianova believes that this violence is mainly related to sexist social structures, which are one of the biggest obstacles to the empowerment of women.
- Dianova is committed to promoting gender equality through education, civic engagement and advocacy to help change these social structures and thus contribute to reducing gender-based violence
- Over 16 days, Dianova International will share content (articles, stories and infographics) mainly via online channels.
- On 25 November, Dianova International will launch a global appeal to “Orange the World”.
- Members of the Dianova network can join the 16 Days campaign with Dianova International or just take part in the appeal for 25 November.
- It’s about taking action with the colour ORANGE. For example, posting a photo of you wearing something orange on social media. On that day we’ll change our social media profile pictures to promote the campaign.
- We’ll also recommend images to our followers.
