Producing integrated policies that are capable of addressing poverty in connection to gender equality, education, food security, health, inclusion, and the environment is the only pathway to creating sustainable communities and peaceful societies
From 8 to 10 May, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, ECOSOC convened its 2017 Integration Segment, a platform for key stakeholders to discuss best practices, lessons learned and recommendations “to guide integrated policymaking for poverty eradication as an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” Dianova International was present at the meetings and have also contributed to the Segment with a written statement integrated to the proceedings of the event.
Dianova’s statement echoes the sentiment of most stakeholders at the event, asking for a comprehensive approach to poverty eradication and adding a social, economic, cultural, environmental and political dimension to the solutions. Poverty can no longer be considered from an income-only perspective, because poverty relates to and affects multiple aspects of one’s life.
Acknowledging the multidimensional expression of poverty is essential to understand the interlinkages between poverty and the entire agenda for sustainable development. It is also fundamental to incorporate inclusive and collaborative practices with different stakeholders, for the design of policies that are effective and truly integrated in the Agenda 2030.
