Source: Pulso Diario, translated from Spanish – Domo Paihuén’s residential center is to be the first treatment facility in Southern Chile (from the Araucania region down to the south) designed specifically for women who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. The center is located in Loncoche, in a beautiful, natural environment where the residents have the opportunity to enroll in a fruitful therapeutic and counseling program.

The center’s inauguration was attended by representatives of local and regional authorities. The center’s residential treatment program will accommodate up to 15 women, whether pregnant or not, with their infants and children aged 5 and under, with the aim to mother/child relationship – especially during breastfeeding.

For the remainder of year 2011, the center received a grant by CONACE (National Council for Drug Control) amounting to 34 million pesos (more than 50,000 €), whereas more than 100 million peso will be allocated for the year 2012 (approximately 150,000 €).

Mr. Claudio Pérez, CONACE’s regional supervisor, argues that Domo Paihuén’s new residential center is to become one of the very best nationwide, due to its exceptional natural situation which will provide women the opportunity to permanently step out of the addiction cycle. “In addition, we can count on excellent professionals exclusively devoted to quality of care and patient outcomes.”

The Dianova Foundation’s President, Mr. Pedro Correa, added that the organization’s purpose is based on the conviction that, “with appropriate support, each person is able to find within him/herself the resources necessary to achieve success in her/his personal development and social integration”.

During past year the prevalence of alcohol or drug-related disorders among Chilean women is 6.7%. According to statistics, the majority of the latter are of childbearing age, which entails significant risk factors for the children.

In total, the region hosts 9 treatment centers for the general adult population, with an investment of 273 million pesos (about 410,000 €); 7 centers for juvenile offenders, with an investment of 579 million pesos (870,000 €) and 1 treatment facility for the region’s correctional population (10 million pesos, 15,000 €).

To conclude, it should be underscored that Domo Paihuén’s residential center already accommodates three beneficiaries who have engaged in their rehabilitation program.
