Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities

XIII Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities

The XIII Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities (TCs) will be held in Medellin (Columbia), October 20-22, while hosting the 25th anniversary of the Latin American Federation of Therapeutic Communities (FLACT). Dianova representatives will attend the event and participate in the numerous scheduled debates to build “the therapeutic community we dream about”.

Organized by the Latin American and Columbian federations of therapeutic communities (FLACT – FECOT) and Cotecol, a Columbian TC, the XIII conference aims “to generate spaces for reflection through experience-sharing and outcomes research, while promoting the implementation of alternatives likely to contribute to the improvement of addiction treatment”.

The therapeutic community (TC) approach for the treatment of drug abuse and addiction has existed for over fifty years. However, after the pioneering, and somewhat controversial, institutions that flourished in the 60s, the therapeutic communities matured rapidly due to their flexibility and diversity of methods and means.

For most, therapeutic communities are perfectly adapted to our societies’ changing needs and challenges: special needs programs (mental health, women with dependent children, foreign minors…), professional services, ongoing assessment, internal or external educational offer, vocational training, etc.

Therapeutic communities must face the future, invent solutions to provide adequate responses to the emerging problems in the field of substance abuse and addictions. The XIII Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities will attempt to answer these many questions, with the participation of renowned speakers and experts.
