On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, Dianova wishes to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts thousands of women have made to foster egalitarian societies.
Yet much remains to be done and serious problems are unsolved: gender violence, wage inequality, lack of participation in board of directors, and of course the extreme vulnerability of millions of women in developing countries.
In Dianova, men and women are on an equal footing: equal pay, participation in governance bodies, work-life balance policies, etc.
Our programs are fully inclusive: therapeutic communities for men and women, training activities, specific program for women with dependent children, etc.
We also participate in advancing the rights and empowerment of women; as we do each year, our representatives will participate in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58) which is to be held in New York from 10 to 21 March 2014. This year’s commission will focus on the access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work. In addition, Dianova will organize a parallel event during the commission to evoke the situation of rural women in Nicaragua.
As a conclusion, we would like to express our solidarity and sympathy to the millions of women who in this very moment are victims of abuse, discrimination or violence. The third sector can be a powerful motor for positive social change and our intention is to continue to give it a voice and make it visible in order to be able, some day, to eradicate these problems.
