RIOD Prevention Campaign

The RIOD (Ibero-American network of NGOs working in the field of addiction – of which Dianova in Spain is a member) launched a campaign to reduce the risks of drug abuse among Latin American Migrants. More than 5.7 million foreigners live in Spain, among whom more than 3.3 million are not stemming from EU member states – including about one and a half million from Latin American countries.

RIOD launched a drug prevention campaign targeting this population, which was funded by the Spanish Government Delegation, within the framework of Spain’s national plan on drugs.

The RIOD guide, “Drug abuse related risks among Latin American immigrants”, was circulated to various NGO’s working for migrants and drug treatment and prevention facilities, which beneficiaries comprise a large number of migrants.

The guide aims to provide people from Latin America living in Spain with useful information about drug abuse, taking into account that these people are faced with a series of additional challenges, including: lack of adaptation, loneliness, exploitation, lack of information, scarce social networks, financial and lodging problems , etc., which represent contributing factors to drug abuse risks.
