In Rome, Italy, as in several parts of Europe, there is an urgent need to provide integration for migrant communities
With support from the Kahane Foundation, Dianova Italy will begin a project in September that will provide effective social integration tools for young people between 12 and 18 years of age, who are immigrants, refugees, and disadvantaged adolescents.
Dianova and the Kahane Foundation work together towards the same goal: to achieve the social integration of migrants and refugees
This project: “Language courses and training for vulnerable young migrants and refugees” aims to provide tools that enable youth integration into society, as well as involving members of the community, and helping young people to improve their quality of life and avoid falling into the hands of criminal networks.
Courses range from Italian for migrants to skills training that allows young people to obtain employment and increase their social mobility opportunities.
It will improve the autonomy of socially disconnected young people who live in the Dianova residences, providing them with technical education, and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, especially objective 4 (education) and objective 10 (reduced inequalities).

The project will impact 30 young people currently accommodated in Dianova’s residential facility
Duration of project: 1 year
The duration of the courses will be from three to ten months depending on complexity and other factors, such as the availability of students and teachers
Cost of project: 33,066 $
70% of this amount has been financed through a donation by the Kahane Foundation to foster integration and social mobility
Expected Results
Capacity Building
To teach skills to young people so that when they turn 18 and leave their homes, they can get jobs and improve the living conditions of their families and communities.
Positive Integration
Eliminating language barriers so that young migrants and all beneficiaries acquire and improve professional skills in order to have the opportunity to be productive and to access the labour market
Strengthening social cohesion
The project is grounded in the development of partnerships between private sector businesses, Dianova and the young people themseves so they can get to know each other, understand each other better, share similar goals and work together to achieve them.
The Dianova Network in Action
As part of its mandate to provide guidance and support to its members, Dianova International initially responded to the Kahane Foundation’s call for projects by proposing the social integration project to be carried out by Dianova Italy. After successfully completing the various evaluation steps, funding was awarded to Dianova International and then transferred to Dianova Italy in charge of the implementation of the project. Dianova International, however, remains responsible for its monitoring and dissemination.

The Karl Kahane Foundation was established in 1991 by the late Karl Kahane as an independent, privately funded, non-political and non-religious charitable foundation, and is based in Switzerland. The Karl Kahane Foundation is seeking applications from organizations for its grant program with an aim to help people to create a dignified and peaceful living environment for themselves and their neighbours.
